there are other ways besides AA and also not every one wants to not drink forever. Moderation management is an option. SMart REcovery and SOS are good not culty Guru less more science based free support groups availabe in many cities including NY and LA

I know people usually have something “clever” for these kinds of comments, but I’m just gonna say six people need to go fuck themselves.

@TheKindofabigdeal. i don’t even drink so I can’t say “I know” but I understand. The whole Seth Macfarlane story is cool thoe. he likes to talk about it

That wasn’t the point of Craig’s story. The point is that alcohol wasn’t his problem, it was his solution. Unfortunately for us alcoholics, the solution itself becomes a problem. If you treat the underlying problem, the solution (alcohol) goes away.

Seth Macfarlane (creator of family guy, american dad, ted) was saved by alcohol he was drunk the night before he was supposed to be on 9/11

No it’s not that you have to have those thoughts, and I used to say that very same thing you just did. But when I couldn’t get a job after trying to quit working in bars and apply at so many places that wouldn’t hire me and then tried getting jobs at bars again looking for an excuse to maybe get free drinks, you realize that there’s no future, you cry privately at home, you get depressed, then the suicide thoughts start up. I know this, I lived it..it will get to that unfortunately.

It is always heartwarming to see people recover from addiction. Stay sober one day at a time.

If you read Craig’s autobiography, there was much more behind this than just alcohol. I think at this time, he had already had one failed marriage, drug problems, he’d been a musician. He really had a pretty turbulent life. Not to say that any of that should lead everyone to jump off a bridge, but for certain people it could definitely be enough. I was just in awe of Craig after reading American on Purpose.

Craig -Thanks for helping my recovery … I used to think that I could only be funny when I was drinking … I was very funny …but I never knew when to stop drinking. .. and then it wasn’t funny at all. My wife along with my friends from college and work did an intervention (she had read – “How to Stop the One You Love from Drinking” by Mary Ellen Pinkham) That was June 2, 1990. I take it one day at a time with help from others.

    craig you the best

First off.. Congratulations! Your sobriety for 15 years is impressive and encouraging. I have struggled with this for too long and taking back control for myself. I have lived in shame and lack of self worth for several years, and know that the only person who can change the direction of my life is ME.. by making wise choices and removing temptation from my home and social settings… Thank you!!

Craig is my hero. I heard him say in a stand up one time that he was an alcoholic. It made it easier for me to admit that I was too. Because maybe someone as funny and happy as Craig can live without alcohol I might be able to as well. I am a friend of Bills for 32 days today. One day at a time and a good future to look forward to. Thank you Craig.

  17. allanpolland1

song about alcohol ..check it out ytube search == (allanpolland1) song called drunk
    ….

  18. negasplenetic

well thats the problem nobody knows if there going to be blind drunk 24/7 and depprsed or the casual drinking party guy and once you turn into one these people its to late

  19. SuttonSantiniPaulo

Awesome story. However for me, I drink and drink everyday, yet I don’t have any suicidal thoughts or distaste for the world. Why is being an alcoholic coincide with being depressed and damaging to yourself and others?

  20. roztankes1

He knows he can’t keep it unless he gives it away!
Amazing share, thank you Craig. Beautifully put. I know you’ll stay sober another day. Bless you!!
