um, this guy is diong the exercise in reverse sequence. Which is “LESS” effective. You should work your lower abs FIRST (because the upper abs are partially involved wihch will fatigue them). Then you do standard crunches (which will be hard cause your abs are fatigued from the lower ab work) then you do the obliques.

wait….do not perform an exercise that makes you feel hurt. Tired is okay but not hurt. Get someone who’s familiar with the workout to check if you’re doing it the right way. =)

it hurts because maybe ur not doing it properly,..here’s the thing,..when ur doing this workout,..ur face should be facing the ceiling and the back of ur neck should be flat… got it?! ^__^ well,..that’s what i do,..and my neck doesn’t hurt,..hope it helps God bless!!!

u should put a pillow behind ur neck and when doing crunches cradle ur hand on ur neck instead of ur temple like the video says, and breath to relieve the strain in ur neck. tell me if it works.
