I think you have a point….a lot of folk are extremely snobbish about music. But having said that, in my opinion a lot of popular music is far to industry led, i.e. not very adventurous and ‘accountant heavy’, consequently, you’re left with a great deal of banality. However, there’s absolutely no reason to think that Richard Thompson doesn’t think that this song is anything other than a good tune….and as the last few bars display, in the end, everything is inextricably linked.

no it just proves that everyone’s hate towards pop is misplaced and that all you pay attention to in pop is its presentation. Pop MUSIC can be awesome if you just let go of your intolerance. i was the same when i was 14.
